Forlì
lies along the roman road Via Emilia, at the heart
of a thriving agricultural area in the Romagna plains.
Among the places of artistic interest are main square
Piazza
Aurelio Saffi, surrounded by historical
buildings, and the Romanesque church of San
Mercuriale.
The municipal gallery and museum in Corso della
Repubblica hosts the works of artists like Beato
Angelico, Guercino, Carracci and the well-known
"Pepper pestle" fresco ascribed to Renaissance
painter Melozzo di Forlì.
Nearby is the church of Santa Maria dei Servi, where
visitors may appreciate frescoes of the local 14th
and 17th century school and 14th-century school
of Rimini. |

The Apennine range in the Forlì-Cesena
area is also known as "tosco-romagnola"
area, after its belonging up until the mid 19th
century to the The Grand-Duchy of Tuscany.
The nearby town of Bertinoro,
known for its production of renowned wines, and
the thermal spa in Castrocaro
and Terra
del Sole are well worth a visit. Terra del
Sole is also known for being an ancient Medicean
fortress; it was Cosimo de' Medici that ordered
the construction of the Governor's Palace. |
