Ever the symbol of Bologna,
its two
towers are located in the
very heart of the city.
The Asinelli tower (80 m.) and the Garisenda tower
(48 m.) are the last testimony of a time when
Bologna's mediaeval
urban structure was based on the 'house-tower' model;
it is esteemed that the city used to have at least
170.
The Asinelli tower is open to visitors: its 498
steps lead to one of the most impressive views of
Bologna
and its Piazza
Maggiore, a vavourite
meeting point for visitors and tourists. |
